I stroll through familiar places in the two nearest cities to me, both in real life and virtually. I treat Google Street View as an unwitting observer of changes. Street View photos capture the changes that have faded in memory over the course of a few years. It’s only when looking at the relentless photographs that I’m reminded of the cut-down trees, constructed and demolished buildings, disappearing and reappearing. I juxtapose current and archival images, embedding them with QR codes leading to specific locations. This is a deliberately impractical technique – the graphic design makes it impossible or difficult to read the code. In the end, these are still the same places, yet entirely different. So, can one reach them?

Przechadzam się po znanych mi miejscach w dwóch najbliższych mi miastach, zarówno w rzeczywistości, jak i wirtualnie. Traktuję Google Street View jako nieświadomego obserwatora przemian. Zdjęcia ze Street View rejestrują zmiany, które na przestrzeni kilku lat zatarły się w pamięci. Dopiero spojrzenie na bezlitosne fotografie przypomina o ściętych drzewach, wybudowanych i zburzonych budynkach, znikaniu i pojawianiu się. Zestawiam ze sobą aktualne i archwialne obrazy, wcinając je za pomocą kodu QR, prowadzącego do konkretnej lokalizacji. Jest to zabieg celowo niepraktyczny – konstrukcja grafiki uniemożliwia lub utrudnia odczytanie kodu. To w końcu wciąż te same, a jednocześnie zupełnie inne miejsca, czy więc można do nich dotrzeć?
