Statement

Art as a cognitive attitude, a way of perceiving and understanding the world, represents for me a search for a new form to build a relationship with its complexity. Art is a chance to create further cognitively valuable versions of the world, or perhaps rather – new worlds altogether. I frequently explore themes related to memory and the mechanisms of its functioning. I am interested in cataloging, arranging, and organizing as forms of artistic practice.

My current creative interests encompass concepts such as time, memory, oblivion, emptiness, fragmentariness, retrotopia, and loss. I perceive the artist’s role as operating with visuality to create messages that evoke suggestive images in the viewer’s mind – „strong images” (starke Bilder), as G. Boehm calls them – that open our eyes to reality, revealing what we would never have known without them. The tools I employ are metaphor, model, intuition, and imagination. In my artistic practice, I like to undertake the utopian effort of connecting fragments into a non-whole, posing questions rather than providing answers.
